Hi there!!

Is the priest allowed to give the absolution in Passion Week?

Is anyone allowed to confess during Holy Week?

I heard that you shouldn't go to confession during Holy Week. I heard that the reason is that so the priest can concentrate during the Pascha prayers.

Is this right?

If it is right, one can always have confession with their priest before or after a Passion Week service... is that correct?

has anyone heard this before? let me know what you all think. and quick before the forums are locked!!

Have a very blessed week,

Jenny

Hey Jenny,

I've never heard that we can't confess during Holy Week. I've actually heard that Confession is the ONLY sacrament we can celebrate during Holy Week (except for the liturgy on Holy Thursday).

I've confessed during Holy Week before. Honestly, I think it would be somewhat strange to prevent someone from confessing during the most holy week of the year, during which we should be focusing on Christ and how He died for our sins (which we should be repenting for). Confession should actually be encouraged during Holy Week.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

However, if the case is that you can't confess during the actual services, I think it would be acceptable to confess after or before (I would ask Abouna first when the time is convenient for him).

Hope that helped. Have a blessed Holy Week.

Pray for me,
Mike

Mike is right. Confession is the only mystery (not sacrament) that is welcomed during Holy Week. Remember, the thief on the right confessed before he gave up his spirit and Christ, the High Priest, accepted his confession. That is why it is the only mystery that is done regularly (mystery of communion is only done once).

Thanks for your replies Mike and David.

That makes a lot more sense.

I was just curious, as i heard it a few years ago and then again on Aghapy TV. Unless i just misinterpreted what i heard or didn't understand the Arabic. lol

Thanks heaps.

Confession is a sacrament, but you're right about being able to confess during Holy Week.
